Mesotherapy has been used in medical and aesthetic practice since the 1950s. It predates almost every treatment that is currently trending on aesthetic social media. And despite decades of newer products entering the market, it remains one of the most effective and versatile treatments available.

What is mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy involves injecting a cocktail of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, hyaluronic acid and other active ingredients directly into the middle layer of the skin (the mesoderm) using a series of very fine injections. The idea is to deliver exactly the nutrients and hydrating agents that the skin needs, exactly where they need to be.

The key advantage over topical skincare is penetration. Applying vitamins and hyaluronic acid to the surface of the skin only achieves limited absorption. Injecting them into the skin itself means they are immediately available to the cells that need them.

What does it treat?

What is the treatment like?

A numbing cream is applied before treatment. The injections are superficial and numerous, the sensation is a mild pricking or stinging. The session typically takes 20 to 30 minutes. Immediately after, the skin may look slightly red and there may be tiny raised bumps at the injection sites, both of which settle within a few hours.

Over the following days, as the active ingredients are absorbed, the skin begins to look more hydrated and radiant. Results improve with each session.

How does it compare to newer skin boosters?

Newer skin boosters like Profhilo and Seventy Hyal focus primarily on hyaluronic acid and collagen stimulation. Mesotherapy takes a broader approach, delivering a wider range of nutrients. The two complement each other well, and many clients use both as part of a comprehensive skin maintenance plan.
