What is Polynucleotides (PNRS)?
Polynucleotides, sometimes called PNRS, are one of the most exciting developments in skin treatment in recent years. Derived from highly purified salmon or trout DNA, they work by stimulating your skin's own repair and regeneration processes at a cellular level. The result is not just surface brightness but a genuine, lasting improvement in the quality and resilience of your skin over time.
Unlike fillers, which add volume, polynucleotides are a biostimulator. They do not change the shape of your face; they change the condition of your skin.
What can polynucleotides treat?
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Loss of skin elasticity and firmness
- Dull, dehydrated skin
- Dark circles and under-eye hollowing
- Sun damage and uneven skin tone
- Acne scarring
- General signs of ageing on the face, neck and décolletage
How do they work?
Polynucleotides are long chains of nucleotides, the building blocks of DNA. When injected into the skin, they act as a scaffold and signal for cell repair, encouraging fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin, improving microcirculation, and reducing inflammation. They are fully biocompatible and gradually absorbed by the body.
What does the treatment involve?
The solution is injected into the skin using a fine needle across the treatment area. Each session takes around 30 to 45 minutes. A course of three to four sessions, two to four weeks apart, gives the best results. There is no significant downtime.
When will I see results?
Results build progressively throughout the course. Skin looks healthier and more radiant from early on, with the full benefit continuing to develop for several weeks after the final session as collagen production increases. Maintenance every six to twelve months keeps your skin at its best.
Who is suitable?
Polynucleotides are suitable for most adults wanting to improve skin quality. Please note that this treatment is derived from fish DNA and is not suitable for anyone with a known allergy to fish or seafood. A consultation will confirm suitability.
Aftercare
- Small bumps at injection sites settle within 24 to 48 hours
- Avoid makeup for 12 hours
- Use SPF 50 daily and avoid direct sun exposure in the days after treatment
- Avoid alcohol, heat and exercise for 24 hours
Frequently asked questions
Is the treatment suitable if I have a fish or seafood allergy?
No. Polynucleotides are derived from purified fish DNA (typically salmon or trout) and are not recommended for anyone with a known allergy to fish or seafood. Please let us know about any allergies at your consultation so we can discuss alternative treatments.
How is this different from hyaluronic acid fillers or skin boosters?
Hyaluronic acid treatments hydrate and can add volume. Polynucleotides work differently: they stimulate your own skin cells to produce more collagen and elastin, improving the actual quality and structure of the skin rather than just hydrating it. Results from polynucleotides tend to be more progressive and longer-lasting as they are working with the skin's own biology.
Is it painful?
Numbing cream is applied before treatment. Most clients find the sessions comfortable. You may feel mild pressure during the injections. Any small bumps at the injection sites settle quickly.
How many sessions will I need?
We recommend a course of three to four sessions, spaced two to four weeks apart, for the best outcome. Maintenance every six to twelve months keeps your results consistent.
Can polynucleotides be combined with other treatments?
Yes, and they work very well alongside anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers and skin boosters. Many clients use polynucleotides as the foundation of a broader treatment plan to improve overall skin quality.
How long do results last?
After a full course, results typically last six to twelve months. Because polynucleotides stimulate the skin's own collagen production, the improvement continues to develop for weeks after your final session.
What can I expect after the treatment?
Small bumps at the injection points are completely normal and resolve within 24 to 48 hours. Some mild redness is also normal. You can return to most daily activities straight away.
