What is Traptox — Trapezius Botox in Hemel Hempstead?
The trapezius is the large muscle that runs from the base of your skull, across your shoulders and down to your mid-back. When it becomes overdeveloped or chronically tight, it can shorten the appearance of the neck, widen the shoulder silhouette and cause persistent tension, pain and headaches. Traptox — sometimes called Barbie Botox — uses small, precise injections of botulinum toxin into the trapezius to relax and slim the muscle, addressing both cosmetic and functional concerns at once.
What causes an overdeveloped trapezius?
The trapezius can enlarge for several reasons. Heavy gym training, particularly overhead pressing and shrugging movements, builds the muscle just as it would any other. For others, chronic tension from long hours at a desk, poor posture or stress causes the muscle to hypertrophy over time. Some people simply carry more muscle mass there naturally. In all cases, the result is the same: a thick, raised trapezius that affects posture, comfort and the way the neck and shoulders look.
How we treat it at Tu Bella
Trapezius Slimming (Traptox)
Botulinum toxin is injected at several points along the trapezius muscle. The toxin blocks the nerve signals that cause the muscle to contract at full strength, allowing it to gradually relax and reduce in size over the following weeks. The result is a longer, more elegant neck, softer shoulder slope and significantly reduced muscle tension. The treatment takes around 30 minutes and requires no downtime.
What does treatment involve?
Your appointment begins with a brief consultation with Zupi to assess your trapezius and discuss your goals. She will identify the correct injection points and dose for your anatomy. The injections themselves take around 20 to 30 minutes. You can return to everyday activities immediately, though we recommend avoiding intense exercise for 24 hours.
Results begin to appear at two to four weeks as the muscle gradually relaxes. The full cosmetic and functional effect is visible at six to eight weeks. Results typically last four to six months, after which a maintenance session keeps the muscle relaxed.
Who is suitable for Traptox?
- People with a visually prominent or bulky trapezius
- Those experiencing chronic neck and shoulder tension or pain
- Gym-goers whose trapezius has grown disproportionately
- Anyone who wants a longer, more defined neck silhouette
- People who suffer from tension headaches originating in the trapezius
Treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Zupi will carry out a full consultation before proceeding.

Frequently asked questions
Is Traptox painful?
The injections involve a small amount of discomfort similar to a sharp pinch. Most clients find the procedure comfortable and well-tolerated. No numbing cream is required, though Zupi can apply it if preferred.
Will it affect my strength or athletic performance?
The dose used for Traptox targets the superficial portion of the trapezius involved in the cosmetic bulk. Deep muscle function for movement and stability is preserved. Most clients report no impact on gym performance, though we recommend waiting a week before returning to heavy overhead training.
How long do results last?
Most clients see results lasting four to six months. With regular maintenance sessions, the muscle can remain relaxed for longer periods over time.
How many units are needed?
This varies depending on the size of your trapezius. Zupi will assess this at your consultation and advise on the appropriate dose. A follow-up appointment at two weeks allows for any adjustments.
Can Traptox help with tension headaches?
Yes. Many clients report a significant reduction in tension headaches and neck pain following treatment. The relaxation of the trapezius reduces the muscle tightness that often contributes to headache patterns.
How is Traptox different from shoulder filler or HIFU?
Traptox uses botulinum toxin to relax and reduce muscle bulk. It is the only injectable approach that genuinely reduces trapezius size over time. HIFU and other energy devices work on skin or fat, not muscle, and are not the same treatment.
