Aesthetic treatments do not stop working when you leave the clinic. Your skin and body continue to respond, heal and produce results for hours, days and in some cases weeks afterwards. How you treat yourself in that time can significantly affect the outcome.
After botulinum toxin injections
For the first four hours after botulinum toxin, avoid: lying flat, bending forward, exercising vigorously, and touching or massaging the treated area. These precautions help prevent the product from migrating before it has settled into the target muscle.
In the first 24 to 48 hours, some mild bruising or swelling at the injection sites is normal. Results typically appear over three to five days and are fully visible at two weeks.
After dermal fillers
Avoid touching, pressing or massaging the treated area for the first 24 hours. Avoid extreme heat (saunas, steam rooms, very hot showers) and strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours, these increase blood flow and can worsen swelling or bruising.
Swelling is normal after filler, particularly in the lips. This typically peaks at 24 to 48 hours and resolves over the following week. The final result is best assessed at two weeks.
After microneedling
The skin will look red for 24 to 48 hours, similar to a mild sunburn. During this time, avoid active skincare (retinols, acids), direct sun exposure, heavy exercise, saunas and swimming pools. Use a gentle moisturiser and a high-factor SPF.
Do not pick or exfoliate the skin if it begins to flake, this is a normal part of the renewal process.
After HydraFacial and dermaplaning
These require minimal aftercare, no specific avoidances for most clients. Apply SPF and keep the skin moisturised. Avoid any harsh actives for 24 hours.
General rules for all treatments
- Wear SPF 50 every day: especially in the days following treatment when the skin may be more sensitive to sun damage
- Stay hydrated: water supports healing and skin health
- Do not smoke: smoking impairs wound healing and reduces the longevity of results
