Skin boosters are one of the most in-demand treatments in aesthetics right now, and it is easy to see why. They deliver intense hydration, improve skin quality and produce a healthy, lit-from-within glow, without changing your features or adding volume. But there is still a lot of confusion about what they actually are and how they differ from dermal fillers.

What is a skin booster?

A skin booster is a hyaluronic acid-based injectable that is designed to hydrate, firm and improve the overall quality of the skin rather than add structural volume. The hyaluronic acid in a skin booster is typically lower density than that used in traditional fillers, and it is distributed across a larger area through multiple small injections.

Once injected, it integrates into the skin, attracting and retaining water and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. The result is plumper, more hydrated, more resilient skin.

What are the different types?

Profhilo is perhaps the best-known skin booster. It contains one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid available in an injectable product, and it flows through the tissue rather than staying in one place. It is injected at five specific points on each cheek (the BAP technique) for a full-face result. It is particularly popular for improving skin laxity and hydration in the lower face and neck.

Seventy Hyal 2000 is a newer skin booster with a high molecular weight HA that stimulates collagen and fibroblast activity. It suits clients who want intensive skin remodelling alongside hydration.

NCTF (New Cellular Treatment Factor) is a cocktail of HA, vitamins, minerals and amino acids, often used in a mesotherapy technique across the face for radiance and skin quality improvement.

What results can you expect?

After a course (typically two to three sessions, four to six weeks apart), most clients notice improved skin texture, a plumper and more hydrated appearance, reduced fine lines, and an overall healthier-looking complexion. Results are subtle and natural rather than dramatic.

Who is a good candidate?

Almost anyone. Skin boosters are particularly well suited to people in their 30s and 40s who are beginning to notice skin dullness, dehydration or early signs of laxity. They are also used as a maintenance treatment for people who have already had other aesthetic procedures.
